Traveling in an RV brings about all kinds of adventures and beautiful things to see. You can make memories with your kids, with your spouse, and this is also an excellent way to travel by yourself. A lot of people choose to bring their vehicle along with them. This provides you with transportation in areas that may be a bit busier. You won't have to worry about where to park your RV for the day. If you're looking to invest in a new vehicle used for this purpose, let's talk more about the GMC vehicles that can be flat towed behind your RV.
The GMC Acadia
The GMC Acadia is a crossover model that comes in both all-wheel drive and two-wheel drive. You can flat tow with either of them. It's vital that you read your owner's manual before doing any towing. There are often recommendations made by the manufacturer that will keep your vehicle safe and protected.
When it comes to the Acadia, you'll need the following equipment:
- Tow bar (and necessary wiring)
- A supplemental braking system
- Base plates
- Safety cables
The GMC Sierra
This flat towable vehicle comes with its own directions and equipment needs if you are planning to flat tow it. The Sierra was made by GMC with the anticipation of flat towing it. A lot of the equipment needs are already installed on the vehicle.
Note: For GMC Sierra 4x4 models, you'll need to follow specific procedures to place the transfer case in the Neutral position before towing.
Important Update for GMC Terrain Owners
For Terrain models from 2017 and older with front-wheel or all-wheel drive, these can be flat towed behind your RV. However, if you have a 2018 or newer Terrain, please note that due to the electronic shifting system, these newer models cannot be flat towed with all four wheels on the ground.
Additional GMC Flat Towable Vehicles
In addition to these GMC models that are far superior for your towing needs, we also recommend the GMC Canyon (4WD models) and Yukon. Each vehicle has specific procedures outlined in their owner's manual that should be carefully followed to ensure safe towing.
