Kelley Blue Book 2021 Best Resale Value Award

Kelley Blue Book recently announced its annual Best Resale Value Awards, and both the 2021 GMC Yukon and 2021 GMC Sierra Heavy Duty both took home first place in their respective categories. The 2021 Yukon was found to retain its resale value better than any other full-size SUV, and the Sierra Heavy Duty is the best among all heavy-duty trucks at retaining its value. In addition, the 2021 Sierra 1500 took home third place in KBB’s list of full-size trucks with the best resale value.

Kelley Blue Book notes that the average 2021 vehicle is expected to retain approximately 40 percent of its value after five years of ownership. However, all three of the aforementioned 2021 GMC models far outperform not only the average but almost every single one of their competitors.

SUVs generally have a lower resale value than other vehicles, but the 2021 Yukon is easily the best of the bunch. After five years of ownership, KBB estimates that the resale value of the Yukon will be 46.4 percent of its original purchase price. This is several percentage points higher than the closest competitor and makes the Yukon one of only two full-size SUVs that are estimated to retain more than 40 percent of their original value. KBB’s review specifically notes how the wholly redesigned 2021 Yukon and Yukon XL provides increased power, performance, interior space, and amenities without really affecting the overall price.

Compared to SUVs and other vehicle categories, full-size pickup trucks and heavy-duty trucks typically retain their value much better. Nonetheless, the 2021 Sierra Heavy Duty still leads the way with a predicted resale value of 56.8 percent of its original price after five years, and this applies to both the Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD. KBB’s expert reviewer raves about the Sierra HD’s towing and payload capacities while also making a special point to note how easy and comfortable the truck is to drive and how spacious and well-appointed its interior is.

All new vehicles immediately lose some of their value the moment you sign the papers and drive your new vehicle off the lot. Nonetheless, the 2021 Yukon and 2021 Sierra Heavy Duty are much more immune to this depreciation than any other vehicle in their respective categories. When this improved resale value is combined with GMC’s reputation for safety and performance, the result is one of the best heavy-duty pickups or full-size SUVs money can buy.
