Ranked in the top five among midsize trucks, the 2021 GMC Canyon is a strong choice for those who want an excellent all-around truck. The GMC Canyon gets some updates in 2021 to be even more appealing. This year's Canyon offers the same trim lineup. There are some small changes to the Canyon's standard equipment in most trim levels. Some trims get their design updates, including a slightly revised exterior design for the Canyon Denali, which receives changes to its front grille in 2021. The Denali also gets some interior modifications to have a more upscale look. The Canyon competes against the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado, but the Canyon has a more user-friendly and comfortable interior that offers more space and more technology. The Canyon also has more options for power and performance than the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado.

Specs at a Glance

Performance

The 2021 GMC Canyon is available with three engines. Two engines use regular gasoline while one uses diesel. The base engine for the Canyon creates up to 200 HP. The second gasoline engine is a V6 that produces just under 310 HP. This engine cranks out 275 LB-FT of torque. The engine is standard on the Denali and AT4 trims, and it is available on certain trims, including the Elevation and Standard. You can get a four-cylinder turbo diesel on all trims that create 181 HP and about 370 LB-FT of torque. The Chevrolet Colorado also has an available diesel engine, but four-wheel drive is only optional on any of the trim levels. Four-wheel drive is standard on some GMC trims and offered on the others.

Appearance

The 2021 GMC Canyon has an impressive and stylish appearance. The Standard starts off the lineup with 18-inch wheels. The Elevation trim adds LED fog lights and body-colored door handles. Off-road tires and 17-inch wheels are included on the AT4, while the Denali gets chrome garnishes and 20-inch wheels. Colorado does not include standard LED headlights. It offers all-terrain tires on select trims, but its trims all have a sportier and less elegant appearance than the GMC Canyon.

Features

The 2021 GMC Canyon has a seven-inch infotainment system with compatibility for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The second trim adds a leather steering wheel. Premium features for the Denali include leather seats, wireless charging, and a larger infotainment screen. A larger eight-inch infotainment display is only available on the Colorado, and you have to add on luxuries such as leather seats and a Bose sound system separately.
