If you’re looking to upgrade to a new midsize crossover, the freshly updated 2017 Acadia has plenty to offer, including terrific safety ratings. Recognized by institutions like the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Acadia proves to be a top choice for Lincoln families.
In addition to once again receiving a 5-Star Overall Safety rating from the NHTSA, the Acadia was a recipient of the IIHS’s coveted Top Safety Pick title when outfitted with optional front crash prevention. The IIHS’s rigid testing includes five crashworthiness tests—small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints and seats—as well as a collision mitigation test. The 2017 Acadia passed all tests with flying colors, thanks to its redesigned high-strength steel frame, advanced stability and traction control, and eight standard airbags, just to name a few features.
From square one, GMC engineers designed the 2017 Acadia to offer driver and passengers alike with ample protection in the case of a collision. The Acadia’s body structure not only incorporates press-hardened, high-strength steels throughout its design, but also new splayed front longitudinal frame rails that flare outward in order to provide an effective structural load path during small overlap frontal collisions," states a GMC press release.
The 2017 Acadia also earned a “Superior” rating for its Forward Collision Alert with Automatic Braking system. The optional front crash prevention technology is included in the Driver Alert II Package, which comes standard starting on the SLT-1 trim. This package also features advanced driver-assist technologies like Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Following Distance Indicator Front and Rear Park Assist, and Safety Alert Driver Seat.
