Center for People in Need

Lincoln's Center for People in Need is a place where low-income households can turn to for immediate assistance. They focus on two things that low-income families typically experience hardship: a lack of food and a lack of diapers. This is a place of genuine assistance for those families with children where their needs can be met.

How Does This Non-Profit Help?

Families with children have needs that two-person households don't. When children are born, it's a blessing, but for hardworking low-income households (or households where people are disabled and are unable to work), things get complicated in a hurry. Families who struggle to keep up with needs like food and diapers can turn to the Center for People in Need.

The non-profit is split into food distribution, a diaper pantry, language services, a POP scholarship program, and a TRADE community reentry program. Each of these programs gives low-income households something that will help them both now and in the future. For example, the POP scholarship - which stands for People's Obtaining Prosperity - helps low-income recipients get full tuition assistance at Southeast Community College. If there's an obstacle to education, they also give even more assistance to reduce those obstacles.

Food distributions take place every day of the week. People can stop by at 3901 N. 27th Street and get the things they need for their families. All you need to stop by is your Center Card, and you're all set. For those who don't have one of these yet, be sure to bring an ID for a temp card. Families can get one full distribution per week, but the flexible time for stopping by helps busy families to make sure they never miss food assistance.

Diaper distributions are done every month. In some cases, these allotments amount to $80 of diapers for low-income families. Imagine getting a set of $80 in diapers a month. That frees up more money for food or family fun. Families who have been struggling and sacrificing to ensure that their baby has enough diapers will appreciate this program from the Center for People in Need.
