What's New for the 2018 GMC Yukon?

Some families need a very spacious three-row SUV. Others need a capable vehicle for towing. Some want upscale infotainment, and others are more concerned with utility. The 2018 GMC Yukon is a chance for a family to have it all in a premium SUV. As your family's home away from home, the Yukon works hard to earn its place in the garage.

Trims & Features

SLE models start you off right with tri-zone automatic climate controls and an 8-inch entertainment touchscreen. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay provide enhanced connectivity. You can choose the eight-seat model or get the front center bench for a total of nine seats. You can also drop back to seven seats with the center captain's chairs. Stitched surfaces on the dash and doors add soft touches. If you choose the SLT edition, you get heated and cooled front seats. Drivers will appreciate the power-adjustable pedals and heated steering wheel. The upholstery is upgraded from cloth to leather. A programmable power liftgate lets you access the hold without straining your back. Cargo capability is enhanced by the power-fold second and third-row seats. The upscale Denali models have picked up a new wood interior trim to go with their fine-grain leather upholstery. They also have a new chrome grille design. With the new Ultimate package, you also get power-retractable running boards and 22-inch wheels. Improving its entertainment technology, GMC has added digital headphones, an HDMI connector, another USB port and a media interface that can utilize your personal devices to provide content for the rear entertainment system. If utility is important to you, you will be happy to know that the Yukon interior provides 95 cubic feet for cargo, and the Yukon XL expands that to 121 cubic feet.

To improve efficiency, the Yukon has active grille shutters. Active cylinder management reduces the eight-cylinder unit to a four-cylinder one when the SUV's velocity and angle are enough to keep it rolling at your chosen rate of speed. The smart standard engine is a V8, creating 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque for SLE or SLT drivers. If you step up to the Denali, GMC has added a 10-speed automatic transmission. Denali drivers command a V8 that kicks out 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque. This edition has magnetic ride control, smoothing out bumps and improving cornering. If you choose four-wheel drive, you can get a low-range setting for trail duties. Depending on which engine and drivetrain you choose, tow ratings range from 8,000 to 8,500 pounds. You can easily bring your camper, boat or other toys with you for a big weekend or long vacation.

The two upper trims have automatic high-beam headlights and active lane control. GMC provides the option of a more advanced autobrake for faster conditions. Shoppers will like the new Denali Ultimate package. It combines a forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and a motion- and incline-sensing alarm system. All Yukons have a rear seat reminder. Parents can activate the system to chime at departure, prompting the driver to double check the cabin for sleeping children or pets.
